PRESS RELEASE
As we celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, the United States faces a critical shortage of truck drivers that demands our attention. The trucking industry, listed among the top 10 fastest-growing jobs in the nation, boasts substantial annual incomes exceeding $100,000. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for heavy and tractor-trailer drivers is projected to increase by 4% from 2021 to 2031, largely fueled by rising household and business spending.
However, despite the promising career opportunities, a recent study has identified a severe shortage of over 80,000 truck drivers in the United States this year. Alarmingly, this problem is showing no signs of immediate resolution, and predictions suggest that the shortage could reach a staggering 160,000 drivers by 2030.
Addressing this crisis requires a multi-faceted approach, and numerous grants and initiatives have emerged to combat the shortage. Among them are:
· Infrastructure Grants: The allocation of $5 million in infrastructure grants to community colleges for commercial driver's license (CDL) training programs, making it more accessible for individuals to pursue careers in trucking.
· Collaborative Partnerships: Collaborations such as the one between Central Region Workforce Development and State Fair Community College are creating vital opportunities for aspiring truck drivers to access training programs.
· Government Funding: The U.S. Department of Commerce has provided $742,180 to support the creation of concrete practice driving areas for CDL candidates, further facilitating training opportunities.
· Second Chances: CDL Grants for Felons and CDL Training for Felons are initiatives that offer individuals with prior criminal records a chance to rebuild their lives and support their families through trucking careers.
Zutobi, a leader in providing FMCSA-approved CDL training, has stepped forward as part of the solution. Their innovative approach to CDL training includes:
· Affordability: Zutobi believes in eliminating financial barriers to career aspirations, offering a cost-effective solution for aspiring drivers.
· Accessibility: Their user-friendly online platform ensures convenience for individuals with busy schedules.
· Safety Focus: Prioritizing safety in accordance with FMCSA regulations to produce competent and responsible truck drivers.
· State-Specific Practice Tests: Providing state-specific practice tests that mirror actual CDL exams, building confidence and familiarity among trainees.
Since February 7, 2022, all entry-level CDL applicants are required to complete an approved CDL training program before taking their official CDL test. Zutobi's commitment to excellence is reflected in their process, where students who score 80% or higher on Zutobi's final tests for relevant endorsements or modules are electronically notified to the Training Provider Registry (TPR), streamlining the process for future drivers.
In honor of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, we invite you to join us in raising awareness of this critical issue. Together, we can support the dedicated professionals who keep our nation moving and ensure a prosperous future for the trucking industry.
